Forrest View

My name is  Miss Maynard and I am the class teacher of Rabbits class.  The other adults who work in our class are Mrs Mattacola and Mrs Bluett.

The spring term topic title is ‘Grand Designs’ where we will base much of our work on the theme of houses and homes. We will begin with a visit to the Forest school area where the children will work together to build a small den for a creature. We will then use this visit as a stimulus for writing with the children writing instructions for how to make their den.

During this topic, we will focus on developing the children’s scientific knowledge and understanding.  This work will be based around the traditional tale ‘The Three Little Pigs’ where the children will investigate the properties of materials to help the pigs design and build a strong house. Later in the term, we will focus on electricity. This will include identifying uses and electricity around the home and how to stay safe when using electricity.

The Grand Designs theme will continue through many other areas of the curriculum. In Art, we will be looking at a range of work by the artist Marc Chagall and using his ideas as inspiration of our own house themed work. In Computing, we will use algorithms to program and debug simple programs. We will also continue learning about how to stay safe on line. Through our Design and Technology work, we will look at the features of different homes. The children will then design, make and evaluate chimneys in the style of Gaudi.

Our PE days are Monday and Friday so please ensure that your child wears their PE kit to school on these days.

This term we will set our homework on Seesaw.  For some tasks you will need to complete the activities sent to you by clicking on add response.  Other tasks can be uploaded by using your notepad, taking photos and adding your voice.  There is still the option to bring in a paper copy if you would prefer for some of the tasks.  There will be a selection of compulsory tasks for your child to complete based on reading, writing and maths plus a range of other activities linked to other subject areas which your child can choose to complete.  The children will receive different amounts of rewards (R1’s, R2’s and R3’s) depending on which activities they choose to complete.  It is also essential that you hear your child read daily, practise their phonemes and help them learn to read and spell the red words on their bookmark. An R1 and a sticker on their reading challenge bookmark will be given each time your child reads at home but please remember to sign their link book to let us know they have read.

We look forward to another fun filled and exciting spring term.
