EYFS
Dragonflies - Mrs S. Burke
Grasshoppers - Mrs K. Barrow
Welcome back! We hope you all had a fabulous Christmas.
Our whole-school topic this term is ‘Survival of the Fittest.’ Our topic will be taught through stories and non-fiction books: One Snowy Night, Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear?, Commotion in the Ocean, Tiddler, Whatever Next, non-fiction space books, and Rumble in the Jungle!
As part of our Understanding the World curriculum, we’ll be going on exciting adventures—through our storybooks. Together, we’ll explore amazing habitats such as the Arctic, jungles, deserts, oceans, and even outer space. Along the way, we’ll discover the incredible animals that live in these places and compare them to those in our own environment, noticing all the fascinating similarities and differences.
We’ll also be budding scientists this term! The children will take part in fun investigations, like finding the best materials to keep Percy the Park Keeper warm. We’ll explore concepts such as freezing, melting, floating, and sinking in hands-on, playful ways. Daily Phonics and Maths lessons will continue, and we’re thrilled to continue Drawing Club—a creative and imaginative new activity the children will love. Don’t forget to check Seesaw for daily updates on what we’re learning and tips on how you can support at home.
Please keep hearing your child read regularly. Every time you record a reading session in their communication book, they earn a shiny! These add up to prizes from the Shiny Shop—a reward system they absolutely adore.
PE will still take place on alternate Mondays and Thursdays. This term, we’ll focus on throwing, catching, and some lively dance sessions. We will also continue to work on foundation skills and our bilateral movements.
Forest School sessions will continue too.
During the Spring term, we will also be looking forward to our parent Maths and Reading events—a chance to come into the classroom and see how your children are learning phonics/reading and mastering number. Please keep an eye on Seesaw for these dates.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to speak to a member of the EYFS team.
