We are looking forward to an exciting and inspiring Summer term.
Our topic for the Summer Term is Let’s Explore and throughout the term we will be developing skills in Science, D.T and Geography. We will start the term with an exciting hook day where we will listen to author Joe Robson read his book ‘Ghillie Wakes Up’ followed by a Forest Schools session to explore trees and plants mentioned in the book. We will also enjoy toasted marshmallows around the fire!

In Geography, we will continue to look at human and physical features. This term we will look at a small area within the U.K and compare this to a non-European country. In Science, Year 1 will explore a range of trees, plants and their features. We will also become season detectives and hunt for signs of Summer! In Year 2, children will explore habitats for living things and begin to learn about food chains. In D.T children will learn about where food comes from and have the chance to taste a range of fruits and vegetables. Children will learn how to cut, peel and grate and make a delicious fruit salad!

You will not need to bring your PE kits to school but you can wear your PE kits on our PE days. Some PE lessons will be outside and hopefully the weather will be warmer so please make sure children wear suncream to school on outside PE days and bring a hat if needed. Please remember children should be wearing stud earrings to school.
Homework will be sent home on Mondays to be completed by Friday. On Seesaw there are links and websites which the children can access. Children can upload any homework they complete on Seesaw or they can keep a record in their Reading Link book. Any homework children complete will be rewarded.

You can support us by listening to your child read regularly and support them with their phonics. An R1 and a tally will be given each time your child reads at home. This can also include books read at home which are not your child’s reading record. At the end of term, a raffle will be drawn based on the tallies and the winner will get a small prize. Please remember to sign children’s reading records to let us know they have read so they can earn their raffle tickets. As well as this you could watch Numberblocks, play Maths games on the White Rose app, practice phonics using the Phonics Play website and practice reading and spelling the red words from your child’s colour bookmark.

We look forward to a fun and exciting Summer Term.
